A new episode of the ABC hit television series “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” aired last night and chronicled the effect mold can have on respiratory health.

Baby Sophia Dickinson of Beaufort, S.C., has struggled to breathe since she was first brought home from the hospital, requiring multiple medications and breathing treatments to fight back back against the effects of the mold growing inside the walls of the family’s house.

Sophia’s mother was unable to sleep through the night for fear her baby would stop breathing. And the family’s father, Bill, was stationed with the U.S. Marines in Afghanistan and thus unable to help.

The family’s plight was brought to the attention of the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” and the old home was razed and a new one built in early January 2001.

At the heart of the family’s new home are two IQAir Perfect 16 whole-house air purifiers that are cleaning 100 percent of the new home’s air around the clock.

As a result, baby Sophia has been able to discontinue all of her breathing medications and treatments. And her mother is sleeping peacefully through the night. “Clean air has not only changed our lives, it has possibly saved my baby’s life,” she says.
